Is your home safe?

A broken door or window is a truly unenviable "gift" left behind by long-haired people. It's not so much the window or door itself that is unfortunate, but the disturbed peace in your cosy home, the scattered objects and the feeling that someone else has been there, has taken possession of your home...

According to police, around 30% of burglaries from flats are caused by landlords being careless and unknowingly creating the conditions for theft by not closing windows and doors, poorly securing belongings, etc. There are many protection measures and techniques available, but protecting your home starts with the simplest things. For example, mechanical security measures (reinforced window hardware, security shutters and grilles, security glass films, armoured doors) are quite effective in preventing property crime.

Reinforced window hardware. In Lithuania, it is quite common for a regular plastic window to be stolen with just a screwdriver or crowbar. That's why window hardware is very important. Since thieves can get through simple hardware quite easily, it is necessary to install special, stronger hardware. Special clamp mechanisms such as mushroom-shaped locks, Teflon bearings, various locking devices, locking plates and lockable knobs - reliably protects the window against damage to the sash or lifting and significantly reduces the risk of burglaryIt takes more time to break a window with such hardware. Often, a thief will abandon his or her plan (panic, etc.) after completing the usual preparations for breaking in through the window and encountering another unexpected obstacle.

Security blinds and roller shutters. Security shutters are used to protect glass or shop windows against intrusion. Security shutters increase indoor security, protect windows and rooms from objects being thrown in and from prying eyes. Nowadays, it is possible to see roller shutters in supermarkets. This is a particularly convenient way and means of covering the entrances to shopping halls and protecting the facade of a building from attacks by street thugs, and with such grilles it is possible to prevent not only theft at a moment's notice, but also to protect the glass of a shop window from being hit by a stick or a stone.

Windscreen protection membrane. Often a film is applied to windows or shop windows to protect the glass from mechanical impact. Thick protective films (200 microns or more) increase the resistance of the glass. It will only shatter on impact but will not disintegrate. To break such glass requires many impacts at a single point. Such a film greatly increases the security of the premises.

Security doors. Every home starts at the front door. Not only the beauty of the door, but also its sturdiness is of paramount importance. Unfortunately, almost all of our doors have one drawback: they are made of sawdust, a few boards for the frame and plywood for the interior. Almost all of them open inwards, so that all it takes is a strong blow to gain access to any house. The owners could redesign the doors to open outwards. This is safer not only in the event of a robbery but also in the event of a fire. We would advise replacing weak doors with strong ones. When choosing a door, it is a good idea to seek professional advice: you should take into account the characteristics of the door, the apartment or house where it will be placed, the purpose of the door and the product, and you should ask for a product certificate and a declaration of conformity. One lock is not enough for a door. One lock should preferably be of the safe (plate) type. One should be lockable with a key on both sides, so that thieves entering through a window (or staying inside the house or apartment) do not leave the door with their belongings.
